[avatar =”wolfie” size=”50″ align=”left” /]Formed in 1990 the Finnish group are back with their 12th full length album. ing the band this time out are several guests including Chrigel Glanzmann from Eluveitie. Under the Red Cloud is an album filled with progressive, death and folk metal influences. The first track on the album “Under the Red Cloud” starts with beautiful melodies which give birth to heavy riffs and vocals, and this pattern is carried throughout the album.
The band have also managed to create their own sound with the combination of death metal and more progressive themes, which gives the album harmony and depth. Especially with “Death of a King” where death metal and folk metal are united as one with flutes which almost make the song sound like Eluveitie.
However “Tree of Ages” could actually be mistaken for an Eluveitie song, with flutes from Chrigel mixed with the heaviness of Tomi’s vocals and beautiful riffs and melodies created by the band giving the song depth and beauty.
Amorphis have stuck with their guns on this album with lyric themes about nature and the human mind, which is something that can be seen throughout their previous work. This album doesn’t fail to impress with lyrics you can’t help but sing too. The band have created another beautiful album, and should be praised for their efforts.
