Each day in the run-up to the finals, we’re doing two tracks from the 2015 Eurovision Song Competition and tearing them to shreds analysing them carefully in a bid to predict the winner on May 23rd.
ESTONIA: Elina Born & Stig Rästa – “Goodbye To Yesterday”:
MOSH – With publicity shots that hark back to the 60’s, the singing is every bit as derivative and dreary. Goodbye to yesterday? Goodbye to your chances. 1/5
DAVE – Right, this bloke is basically singing about doing a runner the morning after the night before if ya know what I mean…nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more. Oi Oi, it gets a tad racy when yer woman gets involved. Not in that way, ya dirty minded buggers. Strangely enough, this song isn’t that bad as it’s got a pretty funky 60s thing going on. 3/5
SPAIN: Edurne – “Amanecer”:
MOSH – Aha, the first entry to try the old “singing in our native language” trick so we’re not distracted by how cheesy the lyrics are. What Edurne seems to have forgotten is that belting out words in your language very loudly so that people understand you only works for English. As a travelling Brit, I can vouch for that. Mind you, she’s hot so I’ll give her one (misogyny and casual racism in a single review – you people are spoiled). 1/5
DAVE – Ah this is unfair; I can’t understand the lyrics because it’s in Spanish. That’s against the rules, isn’t it? I’m marking this one down all the way…it’s NUL PWA. No, hold on….let me google the song and see if I can find the english lyrics and give it a fair crack of the whip. Ooooh….found something better. She’s a sort. MAXIMUM POINTS! 5/5
