Brief History: Since it’s opening in 2012, Broadcast has been a prominent feature of the Glasgow music scene, its basement venue having hosted hundreds of bands in its relatively short lifetime so far. The venue also functions as a popular late night bar and kitchen, a recently launched new menu has seen it change direction and take a more healthy approach. Focusing heavily on the vegetarians & vegans, dishes take on simple ideas with big flavours. Middle Eastern flavours are predominant; pulses, seeds, oddball dressings, breads all get a look in. Meat lovers, however, are not forgotten, the popular burger option is still featured and well sourced meat & fish are also on the weekly changing menu, often as specials.
Personal Experience: A very intimate underground venue with an incredibly low ceiling – to the point that one of the pipes/bars running along it is wrapped in padding to prevent anyone on stage smashing their head on it! Crowdsurfers have to squeeze under the aircon unit. The small size and low stage makes for a very close-up experience. For such a small venue, the sound is surprisingly good – and there’s the benefit of a downstairs bar so you don’t have to wander up two flights mid-gig to recharge.
