Exclusive track by track feature: Broken Links – ‘Conflict::States’

Brit dark alt rock trio Broken Links unleash a set that is evocative, and compelling. Expressing moody guitars lines, poignant vocals and electronic soundscapes, the Uk rockers reveal their engulfing third album, Conflict::States, this Friday. We asked the band to give us this unique track by track insight into the record:

The Day Called X

Terrorism. The reasons behind it are pure insanity. Some are willing to die to spread their ‘message’ whilst taking innocent people with them. Then the media put their picture and name on the TV and give them a platform?!

The Day Called X is the day terrorists no longer have an identity or message. It is futile because people don’t rise to it. It’s over.

Replicas (video below)

This a catch-all for anyone or anything wasting time plagiarising the identify of someone/something else or following some trend. What’s the point? It can’t be maintained forever, spend time creating your own identity. Anyone or anything fake, is exposed in the end.

Pioneers (video on YouTube)

This is for everyone brave enough to push the boundaries & tries to do something new. Often, they are unknown and not taken notice of as it goes against what society currently accepts. If they keep persevering and working hard, they will succeed in the end.

Antibiolotics

A dystopian view into the future, where the current growth in resistance to antibiotics has spiralled out of control due to the blind sightedness of governments now to do anything about it. Disease has torn countries apart and killed millions. This was written in 2019, not so far-fetched now!

Cold War

The frustration of there being too much conflict in the world, and the sheer helplessness of the people caught up in, or fighting in those wars. Most have no choice; it is inflicted on them.

Eras

Earth’s been home to all sorts of life, which then became extinct. We are not immune to this! It seems there’s so many things trying to have a go at wiping us out at the moment. Cancer, COVID, Climate change…countries putting lunatics in charge of the big red button. Our time might soon be up.

Monolith

Society forces us to live in a particular, accepted way. The 10 words in this song toy with the idea of breaking away from those rules!

Fatalism

The idea that life has a set path, just get a grip and ride it. There’s no point in losing your friggin’ marbles over situations you don’t have any control over.

T.T.O.

We live in a world where Murderers, Rapists, Terrorists, and Paedophiles are celebrities, and we look up to celebrities who turn out to be Murderers, Rapists, Terrorists, or Paedophiles. Wouldn’t it be good to just take them out of society? The trouble is you don’t know who they are until it’s too late.

Zealots

This is not a political album. I can’t stand politics, nor listening to people harp on about their views and casting judgements on people from a position of power that only exists in their mind. It doesn’t matter who you vote for, the output is always the same. Stop wasting your time on that useless bullshit and focus on living life.

Year XI

This is about any particular point in life where you were living your best life and knowing that you will never see those times again. You’re just getting older & closer to death. Mentally, you’re probably still stuck in those times, unwilling to let go. Year 11 was my last year of school.

Disconnect

Humans have their limits. There’s only so much stress the mind can take before it’s totally fried, whether it’s from work or, cue the cliché, a relationship. This is about the long and slow self-help journey after it’s been too much. You must let shit go.”
