There is just no stopping UK riff slingers Voltstorm. The band have just dropped another thunderous single “C.O.D.” Check out the alluring video for the single below. The ascending metal crew play a run of shows this Spring with popular prog metallers Kardinal X (see below). The dates coincide with the release of the band’s self-titled mini-album, which lands on Friday. With all of this in mind, we asked the guys to give us an exclusive track by track breakdown of the record:
Feeling of being lower class, unwanted and misplaced is the driving force behind the song. All of the of the band are from diverse backgrounds and have experienced racially motivated abuse in the past. C.O.D. reflects the hardship of the invisible people around us using the warfare metaphor to catapult the listener into a warfare like scenario where all of these feelings are at play.
One Life: (video)
A strong motivational anthem, about the opportunities in life and seizing the chances and taking control of your own destiny. “Are you a King or just a slave?” is one of the many lines in the song which are poking the listener’s brain to really think about the current states of their lives and if there is something they could do about it.
The track once again refers to the listener’s self-awareness and proposes a scenario of a possible escape, as if the singer is revealing a secret at the beginning of the song and taking the listener by the hand through a journey that symbolises their own lives.

At first glance the song may be resonating with the current coronavirus situation but there is much more than meets the eye. Inspired by the events of the Holocaust in , John imagined a future where history repeats itself from a personal perspective. This feeling of being controlled every step of the way by technology feels more like an illness than an enhancement and like there is an invisible prison being built to contain you and it’s all in your head.
Rebel is about having the courage to step up and speak your mind enough to be different and confront the consequences of your choices and stand your ground. The feelings at play behind the lyrics are to be awake and be real to yourself.
The feeling of being hunted down because you’re different is, in a nutshell, the meaning of song. Failure is not an option, but fighting for your freedom is the powerful drive described in the lyrics. Not surrendering is the message for the listeners and will give them the strength to go through whatever life throws at them.”
