Collapse The Sky – exclusive track by track feature

Towering UK metal crew Collapse The Sky have just revealed their ear-splitting new album, White Flags. The engulfing riff merchants have also set loose a brand-new video for the track, “Dream Catcher”. Scroll down to watch it! With all of that in mind, we exclusively asked the band to give us this track by track breakdown of their album:

Foundations

The opening track is a song portraying anger and disgust towards a figure of authority. Some of the anger reflects the acceptance of helplessness and the observation of a life declining, saying goodbye to dreams and ambitions in exchange for a life of monotony. As the opening track we aimed for big and epic, a large orchestral intro, fast ferocious riffs and intense solos set the scene for the rest of the record.

Breathe

A song depicting personal struggle with inner demons and being consumed by negativity. The verse sections represent an outside perspective and observation on someone’s mental struggle, contrasted immensely by the uplifting chorus sections, which depict a glimmer of light shattering the internal darkness within and the importance of positive thinking amongst dark thoughts.

Worship

A narrative of revolt and oppression which considers the lack of morality / cold bloodedness required for change. Standing up and fighting back is sometimes the only way for the correct voice to be heard.

White Flags (video)

White Flags is written about a society at breaking point, polarised by ideas that suit no one apart from those at the top of the food chain. It describes a world on repeat where war and hate are a recurring motif. Leaving the innocent vulnerable and the guilty protected.

Survive

Through the ongoing theme of conflict and personal battles, this song portrays how humans have been forced into areas of conflict against their will throughout the history of mankind. Priorities shift to just trying to survive in an ever-decaying world, where the lives of many can suffer based on the decisions of individual tyrants, treating humans like disposable chess pieces in a game with no reset.

Dreamcatcher (video)

A piece portraying the issues that arise through not displaying empathy towards others. Perceiving a situation from someone else’s eyes is the key to a healthy relationship in many forms and capacities. It also explores the idea that obsession over the wrong thing can often be an illusion distracting them from their true dreams and ambitions.

Get What You Give

A song portraying the frustration experienced when battling through a restraining wrath of external factors. You must keep walking through these barriers in order to gain some kind of control on your situation, if not then you will end up being the mess that you created.

After Effect

A progressive piece depicting the corruption of law and order and the effect it has world wide. It tells a story of how humans plague societies and the injustice generated as a result.

Blessing

A song depicting a man on the edge of death during a war, realising the ideology forced upon him was not correct. In this respect it’s a statement on propaganda and the power that it can have on an innocent mind.

Who I Am

The self realisation that the path you are currently walking does not lead to where you need to be. A struggle to understand or identify yourself, and then staying true to your beliefs and progressing with your journey and not comparing it to the lives of others.

Let It In

This is written about the suffering created from the decisions of those who were meant to be protecting us during times of struggle or despair. It discusses the feeling of being chained down whilst others seemingly walk free of guilt and responsibility.
