Scottish metalcorers, Zero One plough forward with the launch of their stunning sophomore EP, Faults in my Design, which is out this Friday. With the band on rise, we exclusively caught up with Dylan Thomson (drums) and Ross Cole (guitar), and asked for an exclusive track by track breakdown of the EP!
“These Visions” encapsulates everything we love about contemporary metal: the fusion of aggressive riffs, delicate chords and lyrics with meaning – it had to be our lead single. This one specifically is meant to speak to those out there who are struggling – there’s comfort to be found in shared experience, particularly when life seems dark.
The majority of “Hollowed” was written in a single afternoon in late 2023 when we needed one more track to fill out the EP. Everything just seemed to fall into place with this one. We love the idea of tension and release, which is key to the track. We vibed with it so much that we ended up making it the second single.

Vicious Cycle
With “Vicious Cycle”, we wanted to pay some homage to the nu-metal bands that we grew up listening to. We’ve all been huge fans of bands like Slipknot and Korn, so we wanted to try and fuse those influences with some of the heavier bands around at the moment. It all started with that first riff and the idea was to keep up the same aggressive energy throughout most of the track, then giving way to a bit of melody before you get slapped in the face with the ending.
Trinity
“Trinity” is probably the most fun song for us to play live. It’s bouncy, it’s heavy, it’s catchy and it’s an amazing feeling being able to get a room full of people moving. We love the pulse it has and the energy always feels like it’s at 100%. Can you feel it?
Orion
Drawing on sounds from our earlier work, “Orion” delves more into the world of alternative rock than it does metal. We’re fans of both harsh and clean vocals and this gave us a chance to really let the melodies take centre stage.
