UK hard hitters, and former Headline Act, Electron continue their rise with the release of their blistering new EP, Hollow, which is out on Friday 24th May. We spoke exclusively to the high flying modern metalcorers and asked them to give us a unique track by track breakdown of the EP:
“Burning Inside” initiates the EP, delving into the intense internal struggles of feeling on the edge. The lyrics portray a vivid picture of frustration, desperation, and an unwavering battle for composure. Opening with a sense of internal chaos, the protagonist expresses feeling adrift without a trace of their shadow. The lyrics evoke a raw, burning sensation, capturing the struggle on the precipice of something intense.
Pride intertwines with shame, symbolizing the unravelling of identity and a descent into self-blame. Breaking free from metaphorical chains becomes a central theme, illustrating a fierce determination to escape the suffocating edge. Memories are depicted as scars on the skin, prompting contemplation on unexplored paths. The mention of a trancing blackout intensifies the internal struggle, revealing a state of being on the edge and teetering close to losing control.
Revelations of being the shadow beneath secrets add a mysterious and haunting element, suggesting a constant, lurking presence of internal struggles and unspoken thoughts. The repetition of “Gone!” marks a powerful culmination, highlighting the climax of the internal battle. The song concludes with a newfound sense of liberation, as the protagonist breaks further from the remains of turmoil, asserting control and displaying newfound resilience and strength.
Track 2: “The Unbound”
“The Unbound” delves into a nihilistic perspective, portraying a longing for liberation from the perceived meaninglessness of life. The lyrics express a sense of isolation, as the protagonist runs alone in search of light amidst the void. Life’s toll is evident, with the erosion of innocence and a daily experience of inner decay. The collapsing world reflects the profound impact of internal struggles, shaping a narrative of constant dying.
The chorus echoes a yearning for freedom in the unbound, beyond earthly constraints, and a desire for an awakening of fated souls. Tired of pretence, the protagonist rejects societal roles, claiming freedom from shame and embracing liberation. Repetition of the chorus emphasizes the dream of unbound freedom and a connection with something beyond the mundane. The middle section intensifies the narrative, revealing a hollowed mind and the pain of enslavement by external forces.
The final chorus brings resolution, echoing a dream of being taken with the wind and a longing for an end to the suturing pain. “Free in the unbound” becomes a poignant refrain, encapsulating the desire for ultimate liberation and release from life’s burdens.
Track 3: “Tame!”
“Tame!” asserts resilience and rebellion against attempts to silence voices, conveying a defiance against oppression and a call for a revolution. It opens with the declaration “in this world of shadows where voices rise like deafening sirens”. Despite being scattered, the resolve to resist remains strong, ready to ignite a much-needed revolution.
The chorus emphasizes an unyielding spirit, refusing to understand oppressive words. The dismissal of shame and the determination not to be brought down or tamed become a powerful anthem of resistance. The verses describe attempts to chain and confine truth, countered by an unwavering refusal to be silenced. It’s a call to stand, tear down walls, and rise united, spreading chaos against oppressive forces.
Throughout the track there are echoes of defiance against understanding oppressive words, while rejecting shame. The resolve to rise unbridled and untamed intensifies, setting the stage for a fiery rebellion. The bridge portrays seeking light in the darkest hour, unafraid to ignite a fire. Echoes from the shadows spread like a flame, emphasizing the collective rise that cannot be tamed.
The final chorus maintains the defiance, challenging attempts to break down and tame. The chorus encapsulates the internal battle, emphasizing the plea to breathe amidst growing anxiety. Verses explore polluted thoughts, portraying feelings of misuse and a numbing emptiness. The refrain questions the authenticity of connections, acknowledging soul-binding ties but highlighting the collective messiness and hollowness.
A poignant revelation occurs with the protagonist feeling like a counterfeit, an impostor, their inner emptiness laid bare. The final chorus reiterates the themes of seeing through lies, questioning meaning, and the shared acknowledgment that “we’re all so hollow.” “Hollow” stands as a succinct yet powerful exploration of emotional void, capturing the struggle against inner turmoil and the pervasive emptiness that defines the narrative.

As the protagonist expresses drowning in darkness, the desire for light emerges. The craving for the taste of existence becomes a powerful motif, symbolizing the longing to break free from the deadness within. The culmination introduces a plea to show a reason to exist and simultaneously loathe. The repetition of the word “loathe” emphasizes the internal struggle against decay and the search for purpose.
