This band calls themselves Yächtley Crëw (see what they did there?) and they claim to be “Titans of Yacht Rock” and from the evidence of this song, I’m not going to argue!
The song, “It’s Christmas Time”, is from an EP called Seas and Greetings. (Again, see what they did there?) I would liked to have reviewed the whole EP, but, unfortunately, this track is the only one included in the press release, so if your appetite is whetted, you may have to track down the others your self. I assume they are aiming for a “smooth sailing” vibe and, with this song at least, they have hit the target. It is a cover of a Status Quo song from 2008. It was not one of the Quo’s rockiest numbers to start with, but the Crëw’s version is delivered with a cool gusto. and the production on the record makes it sound fuller than Quo’s original.
The band’s commitment to the whole “yacht rock” look is to be ired. The video has them in full yacht crew dress with Santa hats making an appearance to remind you that it’s Christmas. If you liked the original from Status Quo, you’ll like this too… and might even be tempted to seek out the rest of the tracks on the EP.
