I like Big Boy Boater and his music, so, when I heard he had a side project, where he worked on a Christmas song in a ska style, I was in… even before I heard it.
The song is “Rudy’s On The Roof” by ‘King BIG. (The apostrophe before “King” appears to be important, but as someone on Santa’s “Nice List”, I can’t for the life of me think why!) The press release encouraged me to give it a listen as follows: “This holiday season, get ready to skank under the mistletoe with the ultimate Christmas ska anthem…“. I have a ridiculous amount of Christmas music in iTunes (currently 5.8 days worth) and already have a few Christmas ska tunes, so “ultimate” is quite a claim. to live up to. It certainly has an infectious two-tone beat, plenty of brass and Big Boy Bloater’s gravelly vocals. Have a look at the lyrics video at the end of this review and see what you think. I like it.
Rudy’s On The Roof is perfect if you feel the urge to “skank” this Christmas or if you feel that what the season’s missing is some ska!
