It’s CD release day for Primalfrost, so if you’re in Toronto you need to head over to the Mod Club where they’ll be appearing along with Moonspell, Leaves’ Eyes and Atrocity. Due to the benefits of time zones you’ve got plenty of time get dressed up and call a taxi!
Their debut album, Prosperous Visions, was officially released on February 10th and has been available for since then. No idea how well it’s doing but I’m going to encourage you to give it a listen and see if you can add to the sales figures.
Primalfrost was started in 2012 as a solo project by Dean Paul Arnold, then 15 years of age. He wrote the tracks, composed the music, did the lyrics, played the instruments and sang the songs. His blend of folk and black metal seemed to be of interest to quite a few people, and he managed to release a successful EP and draft in a band to let him put the music into a live environment. Dean continues with guitar and vocal duties for the shows, and is ed by Douglas Gonzalves on guitar, Larry Varvarici on bass and Matt Ianuzzi on Drums.
A year on from the EP and the album has debuted. It’s available via the bandcamp page (CD or ) and, unusually, I’ve linked to a YouTube video of the entire album. The link to this was posted on the band’s own facebook page so it’s there with their permission!
Artwork for the album was done by Jan Yrlund of Darkgrove Design (Korpiklaani, Tyr, Manowar, etc.), which is a bit of a scoop, and really lends to the atmosphere.
I’m happy to give this one a bit of a push because of Dean’s age. Look at other bands started by artists at a young age – Matt Heafy of Trivium is the first that springs to mind. Around the same age when they were signed and now they’re at the forefront of their genre. Here’s hoping that Dean gets the same opportunity.
