Today’s Band of the Day, the elusively titled In My Disguise, have chosen to stray away from the normalised sound of contemporary rock; instead adopting a style which could be described as Biffy Clyro meets Alice in Chains. Hailing from Ipswich, In My Disguise are already making waves within their scene, being ed by BBC Introducing in Suffolk and being selected to open the Independent Venue Week Festival at the John Peel Centre in Stowmarket. The quartet are on the cusp of releasing their debut EP, Achromatic, a short and sweet burst of alternative rock which leaves you hungry for more.
The lead single, “Hour Glass”, packs a punch from the start, with guitarist Lee Alexander introducing the track with a deep, crunchy sounding riff, which only gets better as the song progresses. Vocalist Ollie Smith’s clear cut vocals are reminiscent of Graveyard and other classic rock-style bands, a throwback to an age of rock which receives little attention nowadays. The entire song comes together excellently, proof that In My Disguise have the ability to spin their own twist on the modern alternative rock scene.
A personal favourite of mine from this EP is “Story”, a track in which In My Disguise slow the pace down, and play a more melodic, and altogether gentler song. The almost melancholic feel to this track will draw you in, and only goes to counter the band’s ferocity on other tracks from Achromatic. This addition of a track differing from the rest of the EP demonstrates the true diversity which In My Disguise are able to achieve in of musical ability.
What In My Disguise are able to show through Achromatic is that they are a band which will not be pigeon-holed as playing one particular style and only that style, a mistake which many young bands fall victim to. Thanks to this, In My Disguise are certainly a band to keep your eyes (and ears) on, and one which we’ll most likely be hearing a lot of in the future.
Achromatic will be released on the 19th of May.
