French metallers Wide Shut got in touch the other day with their new video. We wanted to know more about them. They were happy to tell us. End result… today’s Band of the Day!
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Teemo (vocals) and Kevin (bass) are from Toulouse, Fred (guitar) and Jordan (drums) are from Bordeaux.
How long have you been playing as a band?
Founded in 2014 by three ex-Probation Period (Kevin, Jordan and Fred), Wide Shut is a french metallic hardcore band. Teemo (screamer in the metal band Moïra) ed us as frontman in 2016.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
The band name comes from Stanley Kubrick movie Eyes Wide Shut.
What are your influences?
We listen to bands like Terror, Malevolence, Traitors, Gojira, Wolfdown, While She Sleeps, Black Tongue and Dillinger Escape Plan.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Our music is a mix of all the styles we listen to: hardcore, punk, metal, beatdown and grind, for fans of two-step and aggressive mosh parts.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Teemo’s lyrics are an outlet. He spits his rage to the face of the audience, explaining how hypocrisy, everyday problems and ordinary contexts of life imprison and kill people. His lyrics are a kick in the mouth of existentialist problems.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
We played our first show 25th March 2017 in Toulouse. We are still working on new stuff and preparing a powerful set for the next shows.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
The wildest bands we have seen live are Gojira and Dillinger Escape Plan whose shows are incredible. I also a Kickback show in Toulouse where the frontman stroked the stage!
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
We play: Drum PDP by DW 5-piece, Bass Gibson Thunderbird & Ampeg amp, Ibanez 6-string guitar, Marshall JCM 2000 head & Mesa Boogie rectifier cab.
What are your plans for 2017?
For 2017 we plan to play and prepare our first ep.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be ing and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
If we were the second band of a three-band bill, we would love to be ing Metallica and we would choose Alea Jacta Est to open for us!
