Coming at you with a fresh Band of the Day, we’re going alternative today.
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Though some of us come from different parts of the US, we all proudly claim Salt Lake City, Utah as our home!
How did you meet?
A few of us had met back in high school. We mainly clicked when we found out that we had the same taste in music and the same sense of humor. Some then met while living in different part of the country. Then Instagram and a wedding brought the final piece together. Not at the same time though. Those were totally separate occasions.
How long have you been playing as a band?
Our album release show in our hometown this October will mark the third year of this band being together.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
It comes from a song a few of us had written when we were teenagers. The song wasn’t strong enough to deserve the cool title so we felt we should start something new under that name. Maybe one day we will actually play the song “Cinders” for our crowds. I don’t think there would be a crowd left after that performance though.
What are your influences?
We have a wide variety of influences from pop music to metal and jazz to folk. Some would include Say Anything, Dave Matthew’s Band, The Police, Taking Back Sunday, Andrew Bird, Coldplay, and The Head And The Heart.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Our music is emotional. Not in a bad way, but if you listen with your heart and not just your ears, I truly believe you and anyone can feel happy, or hopeful, or whatever you need to feel at the time. It’s definitely alternative rock music, and we like to rock out. But I think it’s approachable, personal, and appropriate for singing in the car or in the shower.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Most of our lyrics on our new record are hopeful. They touch on the sadness and more difficult times that we all go through but the overall theme of them is overcoming that… Then also about how we like Wendy Peffercorn.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
Energetic and rowdy! The crowd is yelling the words just as much as we are. We make sure to do everything we can to put on a full show for our fans. We stopped counting after we hit 100 shows as a group. So maybe like 101 now…?
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Probably witnessing our bass player Adrian break not just 1, but 2 basses on stage in the same set. People may think they have seen somebody go pretty hard on stage. But I can almost guarantee that they haven’t seen anyone go as hard as he does!
