Band of the Day: Downcast

Continuing with the punk theme, we’re back in the UK for today’s iteration…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Ben: South West UK.

How did you meet?

Ben: Through a mutual friend and old bandmate back when I worked at Primark.

How long have you been playing as a band?

Ben: We’ve played together in a previous band for around 3 years. We’ve been playing as Downcast for around a year.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

Liam: It’s a word that we feel represents what we’re about.

What are your influences?

Ben: Alkaline Trio, Blink 182, Capstan and Neck Deep.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Liam: We try to make it sound as honest and powerful as possible. There are a range of different sounds on the EP; it’s not your typical pop-punk record.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Liam: Relationships and mental health.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

Liam: We haven’t played any live shows yet.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Liam: I saw Iron Maiden recently, and it was so theatrical. There was sword fighting!

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Ben: I use a Gibson Les Paul with an Orange CR120 head.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

Ben: Our debut self-titled EP Downcast and debut single “Anthurium”.

What are your plans for 2018?

Liam: We have two music videos to release, and we’re really excited about it!

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be ing and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

Ben: I’d love to have Better than Never open for us (RIP) and Capstan.
