Kick back and relax as Solarshift tell you some nice things about how great they are…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Manchester, UK.
How did you meet?
Band was playing as a three-piece (guitar, bass, drums) for quite a long time. They found me at myband in December 2017 and that’s how it started.
How long have you been playing as a band?
16 months so far.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
Ben (guitar) came up with “Solarshift”. We didn’t argue over the name as this one sounded really cool. The origin… I guess it’s the love to all things cosmic and dreaming about touring the Milky Way!
What are your influences?
Devin Townsend, Deftones, Northlane, A Perfect Circle, Slowdive. Heavy, melodic and soothing music.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We’re not afraid of mixing 7-string breakdowns with clean, shoegaze delicacy. Modern metal meets classic sound. Almost every song comes with backing track, synths, pianos etc. We want to deliver!
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Love, anger, anxiety, uplifting. All is metaphor of a metaphor.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
We like to surprise people. Let’s finish “sounds like a ballad” song with a “punch in the face” wall of sound. We’ve played about 10 shows so far. 4 more to come this spring.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
When someone’s stagediving and there’s about 10 people in the crowd.
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
Drums – Tama Hyper-Drive kit. Guitars – different ESP and LTD Horizons (6, 7, 8 strings). Bass – different Fender and Ibanez models (4, 5 strings).
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
We’re promoting our debut EP Satellites. You can find us on Spotify, Soundcloud, Bandcamp. There will be a video for a song called “Tidal Disruption”. We’re shooting in May.
What are your plans for 2019?
To gig everywhere, as much as possible.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be ing and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
We’d love to open for Deftones or Incubus. It’d be great to share the stage with Devil Sold His Soul. I can see ourselves playing at some post-rock festival.
