Act of the Day: Sidus

Today’s Band/Act of the day is something special… it’s our last one. The fact that we’re finishing on a solo act is quite appropriate and one of the reasons we’re wrapping up BotD. However, new things are to come! Check out our usual feeds and our web page for an announcement tomorrow!

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Sidus is a berlin based music project. However I am originally from Athens, Greece.

Are you working alone? Do you have any people who are collaborating with you?

Sidus is a one-man project, so I am the only member of the band! Though I have two great colleagues. Ioannis Krommydas is doing most of the graphic designs (artwork and videos) and Panagiotis Katsaounis produces, mixes and masters my songs. We have been friends for a long time. They were both involved in one of my first bands, Breathe In Suffering.

How long has the project existed?

Sidus has existed as a music project since late 2012, even if the first EP was released during November 2020. During this period, I was experimenting with sounds and arrangements.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

Sidus means “star” in Latin. Sounded very appropriate for a cinematic, post rock band to me!

What are your influences?

I would say that my music taste is very broad. But the main influences that I had when I was creating Seasons Reversed were Deftones, God Is An astronaut, If these Trees Could Talk and Hans Zimmer.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

The songs have intense, crunchy, metallic guitars together with melancholic and memorable melodies. There is unique balance of aggression and calmness which feels cathartic to me.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

“Seasons Reversed” was recorded with an Esp Eclipse II and a Warwick Corvette. We also used the overdrive pedal Maxon Od820 while the guitar and bass sounds were created with an Axe-Fx II XL and a Kemper.

What are your plans for the next 12 months?

I am preparing some acoustic live shows that they will be ed on YouTube. I am also preparing a full merchandise Bandcamp page, while composing songs for my next EP. It should not take too long. I am super excited to share new music with my fans.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be ing and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

I would tour for Deftones for sure! They are my favourite band of all time after all. The opening act would have been for sure my good friends Aetherian. If you don’t know them do yourself a favour and check them out. They are an amazing melodic death metal band from Athens, Greece.
