Band of the Day: Uncut

Do they need haircuts? Or should the be wearing tracksuits? This bizarre intro will make sense when you read today’s Band of the Day!

Simple things first – where are you from?

Hi. We are Pablo – drummer, Alexy – singer/guitarist and Enzo – solo guitarist.

The three of us come from Poitiers, a rock n’ roll city where it’s good to live in .

How long have you been playing?

We have been playing together since October 2016 – time flies by!

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

There are several stories about this name, it’s up to you to choose the one that suits you best.

One is that we decided to let our hair grow since the beginning of the project. Or at the beginning of the project we always cut the first beat of the measure to make a drop on riffs. There’s also a French rapper called Booba who has a clothing brand called “Unkut”. At the beginning we wanted to do concerts dressed in tracksuits, but in the end, we opted for shirts. It’s up to you!

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Our music could please fans of 70’s music right through to the 90’s too. We have the feeling of a 70’s rock band with the sound of a 90’s rock band. But first and foremost we do exactly what pleases us.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Alexy works on lyrical stories of independence, self-abandonment and resilience. But also based on stories like “Diplodocus”, which is just a story about a dinosaur from the superior Jurassic who crushed cities and villages. But we’ve promised ourselves to never write about our political opinion or things like that.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

Our music is neck breaking guaranteed. We go through all the stages of strong emotions from softness to rage. We did about fifty concerts between March 2017 and the end of 2020.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

In 2018 played in Marburg, . We stayed one week. There was one evening where we had two concerts in the same evening, and it was rather sporty!

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Pablo plays on an 80’s Hilite Sonor with a Yamaha brass brass snare drum and in cymbal he has a crash and hi-hat Meinl Byzance, an Istanbul Agop ride and a Zultan Q crash.

Alex’s got an Epiphone Les Paul Baritone, with a bass Ampeg SVT 3 pro, with a Pog octaver on it (full bass octave, it’s important to have sub), and a Vox NT 50 with an OD on it.

Enzo’s got a Fender Stratocaster, and sometime a 87’s Grecko Les Paul, with a twin reverb, tube screamer, reverb and delay, and a boss distortion.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

We’re busy promoting our album which came out in November last year and working on releasing singles and videos.

What are your plans for the rest of the year/next year?

Our projects are to continue to compose and give the best of ourselves! We’re working on the next album.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be ing and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

It would be huge to tour with Rival Sons because they’re a band of the moment that works well and that corresponds to us! And if not in a French band it would be great to play with our friends from Howard the band, we are fans. Our favourite song of theirs is this one.

From previous Band of the Day Empire Warning: If a Norse God had to take over from one band member what god will it be, what position would they be filling?

Well, Pablo can be replaced by Thor with his hammer on his snare sound, it will make some huge rimshots!

From another BotD, The Crawling: Being in a band can be as much of curse as a source of enjoyment and satisfaction. What keeps you going when things get tough?

It’s a really good question, we guess we have to stick together, and continue to believe in what we do, each other and stick together! It’s a wonderful job, no matter what happens, it’s all an adventure, and you have to keep going no matter what.

Uncut’s album Blue is out now via Klonosphere.
