Alestorm are a great band for many reasons, but one thing that puts them head and shoulders above most others is their and promotion of the bands who open for them on tour. I’d say about half their current posts on facebook are bigging up the three s for the gigs later this year.
Which is where I found this gem. As you can probably tell by the name Troldhaugen, the fact that their cover has been slightly changed to deal with trolls and that they’re a prog/folk band that they come from the traditional troll/folk enclave of Wollongong, Australia.
I’ve not had a chance to check out their other material as yet, but wanted to get this posted up for you. It’s their own take on ABBA’s 1979 disco classic, only the title’s changed ever so slightly from “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)” to “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Troll After Midnight)”. I will leave you to make your own judgement, but I just had to share this YouTube review:
This song makes me feel like a ravenous herd of unicorns are charging at me, as I stand upon a hill in the middle of winter. Just before the unicorns use me as their doormat, Jesus reaches out his large hands and caresses my bosom and raises me up up towards the heavens and tucks me neatly behind his ear. You know? (Jessica B)
So give it a listen and give the band your if you’re heading to one of the Alestorm gigs in Europe (not UK) in September/October – sadly the band leave the tour before it hits the UK but with luck may make the journey to Blighty in the future.
