Another one to pop out as numerous artists, deservedly, pay tribute to the Purple Prancer is Adam Levine’s version of “Purple Rain”, performed at Howard Stern’s birthday bash. Backed by Train (I confess to loving “Drops of Jupiter” back in the day) the Maroon 5 frontman doesn’t just sing the song – he absolutely shreds the extended guitar solo from halfway onwards. Seriously, complete hats-off kudos. He may front a band that falls more into pop than rock but give the guy a chance here. This is as “rock” a solo as you’ll see.
Like Dimebag, Lemmy, Bowie and all the others we’ve lost over the years, it’s always comforting to know that we’ll never lose their music.
