Wolverhampton is somewhere I’ve not actually been for gigs before. It’s not somewhere I’d normally go for a concert, but given that Bloodstock is just around the corner and there was nowhere else within 100 miles that I could cover, I ended up there. Prior to the concert, I had the opportunity to chat to Mark and Ted from Death Angel. That will be up on the site soon.
The first band of the night was Derision from Manchester. Playing some good old Metal with harsh vocals proved a good fit for the night. One thing that did catch my eye was the fact that the guitarist was using a Kemper head. That explained why his guitar tones sounded awesome. In short, the band delivered a good set and suitably warmed the crowd up for the next band.
Up next was Eradikator from Birmingham. Having some initial teething problems with the bass guitar wireless system the sound was finally fixed and the band was able to start. Smashing straight into a thrashing song, the crowd suitably responded with horns up and heads banging. Playing straight up thrash metal, the band delivered a good set and had a good stage sound.
Third up on the stage was Our World Below? from Birmingham. Opening to a thunderous cheer from the crowd, the band immediately wasted no-time in showing everyone what they were about. Having a sound vaguely reminiscent of Soilwork, the band delivered a cracking set to the now packed venue and certainly won themselves some new fans. It’s safe to say I’ll definitely be checking these guys out.
There was then a brief interlude whilst Death Angel’s gear was loaded onto stage with the usual impressive Drum kit being displayed. After a slight delay in coming on stage, the band blasted into “Left for Dead” and the crowd went suitably wild. Playing 7 songs from the latest album, The Dream Calls for Blood, and one song from each of their previous albums, the band delivered a blinding set with thunderous roars between songs. The song ‘Bored’ received one of loudest cheers I’ve ever heard when the band started playing it. Safe to say that song went down well with the crowd.
Whilst this gig was outside my normal travelling range, it was nothing short of utterly amazing. I look forward to seeing all of the bands again and will make sure to catch them if they ever play Glasgow or Edinburgh. If any of these bands are playing near you, go and see them. You won’t be disappointed.
