First interview in a while and it’s always nice to chat to someone who’s so forthcoming and easy to get along with as Josh.
Wovenwar’s self-titled debut album comes out on August 5th and it’s a belter (all the compliments I throw at Josh in the interview are genuine and deserved!). The band are currently touring the US with Black Label Society and will be over in the UK for a couple of headline dates next month, followed by another visit in October opening for In Flames – details and dates here.
Josh was kind enough to answer some questions on the origins of the band, and where As I Lay Dying stands with the incarceration of Tim Lambesis. Focus of the interview, though, was on Wovenwar and how things are progressing for the new project.
The sound of the band is different to what old fans may expect, with an additional guitar and change in vocal style. Josh explains how the band developed this sound and how they came to choose Shane Blay as the band’s vocalist.
He runs through a few songs on the album, as well, and picks a couple of his favourite tracks both to play and to listen to… and also hints at what to expect from the live show if you’ve not been lucky enough to catch them Stateside as yet.
As ever, feel free to link back here or transcribe the interview. All I ask is credit and a shout out so that I can keep track of where it’s being used.

My thanks to Josh and – again – to Andy at Metal Blade for organising everything. There’s a man who should hopefully be enjoying a cold beer by now!
