Pre-Bloodstock interview: Incipit

See Us At Bloodstock 192Due to the huge number of bands playing at Bloodstock this year, and the fact that our two roving reporters will actually want to watch some of them, we’re doing a little round of pre-festival interviews this year. We’re focussing on the bands playing the Jagermeister and Hobgoblin New Blood Stages so they get a chance to convince you to go and watch them. , these guys and gals are the future of our musical world!

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Stavanger, Norway

How did you meet?

Through the band/acquaintances of the band

How long have you been playing together as a band?

We started Incipit in 2011. I (Stian, drummer) am the only original founding member. Eric (vocals, guitar) came along after maybe half a year. Christina (bass) has been with us for about a year and Peder (guitar) about 5 months.

Where does the name of the band come from?

Research + Wikipedia, hehe

What are your influences – individually or as a band?

Our lyrics span most aspects of darkness, death, chaos, human suffering and post-apocalyptic scenarios, which I guess you can say is our inspiration

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

What is unique in music today? It’s all been done up and down the full spectrum. We feel that have found our own sound and we make music that we like to play and not following trends or fashions in music.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

This will be the bands 5th show ever. Our show is totally void of theatrics or effects and apart from us trying to make a connection to the audience it’s basically just us playing letting the music speak for itself.

Did you enter M2TM thinking you could win it?

Of course we entered to win, why bother if not… But we were actually quite surprised when we heard our name called by Simon. There were so many good bands on the night of the final and it could have been any of the others that took the prize really.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

6 songs, mostly older material. A sonic fist in your face from beginning to end.

Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

Rob Zombie

What are you working on at the moment?

Apart from the preparations towards Bloodstock we are getting ready to start recording our first full length album as soon as we get back from the UK.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done on tour?

We haven’t done any tours yet, so nothing…

What advice would you give to a young band just starting out today?

Keep at it, practice, practice and practice. Have fun at it but take it seriously, if you want it you have to work for it. There will be heaps of setbacks so have that in mind. Then practice some more!

If you could be part of any 3-band line-up who else would you have on the bill? One band above you and one below – a chance to plug a smaller, unsigned act!

Nile, Incipit, Art of Deception.

Incipit are playing the Hobgoblin New Blood Stage on the Sunday.
