Pre-Bloodstock interview: Taken By The Tide

Taken By The Tide band 192Due to the huge number of bands playing at Bloodstock this year, and the fact that our two roving reporters will actually want to watch some of them, we’re doing a little round of pre-festival interviews this year. We’re focussing on the bands playing the Jagermeister and Hobgoblin New Blood Stages so they get a chance to convince you to go and watch them. , these guys and gals are the future of our musical world!

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Hey! We’re from Nottingham and Derby.

How did you meet?

The band is pretty much the brain child of Martin and Eric, our guitarists, who managed to drag other people along from various other local bands over the years. We’re all pretty stuck here now I guess.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

The current line up has been a couple of years but Eric and Marts have been writing stuff for this band since around 2010.

Where does the name of the band come from?

It’s just a particularly nasty image that seemed to fit the nature of the bands sound.

What are your influences – individually or as a band?

The Hammered Dulcimer.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

It’s basically just sex music for sex people.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

Loud. Sweaty. Angry (the good kind). We have done this many times.

When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?

A few months ago, we were sent a Raven from Kings Landing, sorry, Coventry, offering us a slot on the New Blood Stage. Of course we agreed.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

I’ll let you know when we’ve decided. Hopefully before Sunday.

Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

We were worried that if we clashed with Cannibal Corpse, they would drag all the angry mosh pit guys to their set instead of ours. Fortunately, we have a pretty sweet slot mid afternoon (3:45pm) so hopefully they turn up and break stuff.

What are you working on at the moment?

Loads of new music about how angry the world makes me. People seem to relate to that. We also have a load of gigs booked around this septic isle in September with the guys in Cambion too and a new record before the end of the year. Keep your lids peeled.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done on tour?

I couldn’t possibly comment. We only drink water and we’re in bed for 9:30.

What advice would you give to a young band just starting out today?

It’s important to stay hydrated.

If you could be part of any 3-band line-up who else would you have on the bill? One band above you and one below – a chance to plug a smaller, unsigned act!

Ion Dissonance would be sweet to . I’d give my 3rd nipple. I don’t thing they’re smaller, probably more a similar level, but Core Of Io are fantastic. A rare example of a talented band that can actually sing and genuinely don’t give a fuck.

Taken By The Tide play the Hobgoblin New Blood Stage on the Sunday.
