A few days ago, I had the opportunity to chat to Olaf from Enforcer before they played
atted about the new DVD that’s coming out, his advice to new bands and what inspired him to start playing music.
Thanks to Sarah at Nuclear Blast for organising and Olaf for his time.
You’re currently doing a co-headlining tour with Wolf with from Dynamite. How’s it been going so far?
It’s been really good so far!
The most recent album, From Beyond, came out a few months ago. What’s the response been like when you play the new songs live?
Much better than I expected actually, it seems as though the fans are picking up the new album really really well.
If my sources are correct, you are going to be releasing a DVD soon. Can you tell me a little more about the DVD, like where it was filmed and what made you decide to one?
We played and show in Tokyo and we had the opportunity to record it. It turned out so good that we decided to release it. We didn’t really decide before that we wanted to do one, it just sort of happened.
What inspired you to start playing music?
I don’t really know, I’ve always been playing music. My parents were musicians so that sort of got me interested. I don’t really consider myself a musician I consider myself a hard rocker. I do it for the ion of the music rather than any musicianship or anything.
What’s your alcoholic beverage of choice?
I like Beer. I try to avoid hard liquor as it gets me really drunk and makes my head. But no I like beer.
What’s the sort of gear you use live?
I’ve a couple of guitars with me. I basically use the standard Marshal amps from the 70’s. I’m currently playing an Ibanez Destroyer that goes straight into the amp.
What advice would you give to a band that is just starting out in the industry?
Be yourself 100%. Don’t try to copy other bands, but even if people ditch you for what you do just do it even more. The more personalised you can be the better. Don’t let people get you down for doing your own thing.
Finally what sort of set can we expect tonight?
It’s mainly focussed on the new album and the rest is mixed from our previous three albums. We have a skeleton of setlist and throw in and out songs depending on the mood.
Thank your for your time!
