Always a pleasure to meet Wolf!
Always a pleasure to meet Wolf!

A couple of days ago, I had the opportunity to catch up with Simon from Wolf. We chatted about how the tour had been going, his favourite alcoholic beverage, his advice to new bands and how work on the new album was progressing.

Thanks to Nina from the Noise Cartel for organising and Simon for his time.

First things first, how’ve you been keeping?

Simon: I’ve been doing good yeah, I mean at bloodstock I was completely out of it. I don’t know whether it was something I’d eaten but I was really sick. My vision was black and white and I had a really bad headache. I was amazed I was able to play the show. But aside from that, I’ve been doing good thanks. How’ve you been keeping?

I’ve been pretty good thanks, just very busy and travelling here, there and everywhere. Anyway, You’re currently on tour with Enforcer and Dynamite, how’s the tour been so far?

It’s been really great. We started in with one show and then went down to Spain and Portugal and those shows were amazing. We then went up and played a show in Belgium and after that we came and started doing the UK shows. Everyone lives on the same bus and is friendly. The audiences have been really good and everything has been nice.

Oh great! I at Bloodstock, Anders and Richard said that the tour might not go ahead but you’re here so everything got sorted.

Yep, we got everything sorted out. There was a few things for this tour which we hadn’t sorted when we were at Bloodstock but in the end everything worked out ok.

Since I last spoke to you guys, has much been happening in the band?

Not much really. I don’t playing any shows after Bloodstock before this tour and we mainly just started writing for the new album. This tour is the last tour before we start officially writing for the new album.

Are you going to be working with a different producer or will it be Jens again?

We haven’t decided on that yet. We really liked working with Jens but we are just brainstorming ideas now. We might work with him again as we really enjoyed how Devil Seed turned out.

I might have asked you this before but what inspired you to pick up your guitar and start playing?

First of all, I’m the youngest of 4 brothers and they all listened to hard rock. My brother closest to me went to school with Mike Wead who plays with King Diamond. So that inspired me when I saw him play and I’m seven years younger so I really looked up to him when I was younger. We’re good friends now, me and Mike. But no, I’d say that was what inspired me to start playing.

What would be your alcoholic beverage of choice?

I’d have to say Absinth. I’m not sure really, If I could only have one then I’d say whiskey. Of course I love Absinth, but it’s a little strong to have just that. Having said that, maybe beer is our correct answer.

Well you have your own ale!

That’s true, I’m set for life then! Hopefully we can get it over here to the UK as well.

I recall Anders saying that your brewer was looking to get it over here.

I think they are working on maybe doing like a licence deal or something. We would have liked to bring some with us on this tour but it wouldn’t have really worked. It’s quite heavy and takes up a lot of room. It would have been to have it every show!

Hold a bottle up and be like “This is our Ale and it’s Awesome!”

“Buy it!”

My final question for today, what Advice would you give to a band that is just starting out in the music industry?

First of all, to rehearse and really write good songs. It’s important to have really good songs and listen back to them as a critic. Also be aware that the business is kind of shitty, It’s a tough job but just work hard and things will happen.

Thank you very much for your time today!

Simon: Thank you! Was awesome to meet you again!
