Moldovan metallers Esperoza are gearing to launch their sophomore studio album Aum Corrupted, and here is what they had to tell to Moshville about it, the scene in Moldova, and more.
Hey guys. How are you doing?
Hello, Thank you for asking, we are great, finishing our long awaited album to be released.
You are about to release a new album titled Aum Corrupted. How do you feel about the release?
Probably like every artist when releasing album, full of excitement, anxiety and exhaustion.
How much of a challenge was it to work on the album?
Of course it was, and still it is a big challenge, it’s like to have a baby. Both as long period of time, as expensive, and usually not meeting expectations :)
How is the rock/metal scene in Moldova these days?
Unfortunately the scene in Moldova is nearly dead. And it’s not that we don’t have talented musicians, we have a lot of them, but they are not motivated enough to go till the end. As you know music is requiring a lot of financial, time, and energy investments. And even after this you have no guarantees that you actually will be able to achieve something with music, and I am not even saying now about making money with music, but just at least to have some kind of fan base. But even more than this if you are living in Moldova, and trying to be able to tour outside of country it’s nearly impossible, because Moldova is a poorest country in Europe, and salaries are very low, and when you go in other countries it’s just craziness, because prices just don’t coincide with our salaries. That’s why our bands don’t even expect something, and they stopping to hope for a better future, it’s pity because we have some really interesting and talented bands here.
What is your opinion about the new wave of metal bands?
I think we all in the band more old school, and we actually very often discus this theme about all this new fancy metal bands… Well fine, we are not aloud to judge anyone, but it’s just not our music. On the other hand it’s a normal way of life, everything is ing and changing, so probably it’s a good thing.
Can you tell me something about your influences?
If we are talking about genres it’s death, black metal mainly, but with many others metal genres. But if we are talking about some particular bands it would be: Emperor, Celtic Frost, Morbid Angel, Mithras, Triptykon, Strapping Young Lad, Cryptospy, Gojira etc…
What are you listening to these days?
I have this weird thing, when I’m working on something at the moment, I can’t listen anything else. So I am all into our album I can’t listen something else. I also had this when I was studying, and when I had period of exams I hadn’t been able to listen anything else except my programs for exam.
Your five favourite records of all time?
It’s a very tough question, because I can love some songs on this album, and don’t like the other half of a album. Of course I listen whole albums, but I can’t love ALL the songs from one album. But generally I love discover and listening very underground bands, very unknown like we are, or even more unknown smile emoticon I can even name this a hobby:)
Besides the release of the album, are there any other plans for the future?
Of course we have so many plans all the time, and sometimes I don’t even understand where they all come from. It’s like a flash, suddenly an idea flying to your mind, and you can’t realise yourself until not put it into reality. So we have plans about even not a one tour, but maybe even couple of tours, to make two more videos for this album, some festivals, and we hope to start working on the new material in summer.
Any words for the potential new fans?
Oh, if would be great if somebody after reading this interview will become our fan, or at least listener. Maybe it will sound like a cliche, but we are really so much grateful for every listener. It’s a great gift for every arts to be appreciated. We are not trying to sell you anything, we just want you to listen our music and trying to understand. And you can us in every other possible ways then just buying our stuff, you can share our work, spread the message, or even write us some good or maybe critical words. The main thing is we could fill that you care ;)
