Band of the Day / Interview: Pranx

Pranx - Things On Your MindIntroducing, in their own words, today’s band – Pranx. Take it away, guys!

Where are you from?

We are from a small town in Southern called Mosbach.

How did you meet and start playing together?

Rouven (bass, vocals) and Boris (guitar, vocals) had played together in previous band. We met drummer Marcel on facebook after posting several times that we needed a drummer. We’re playing together since February 2014.

Where did the name of the band come from?

PRANX is a shorter version of Rouven’s and Boris’ former band Prank FanatiX. We wanted to have a name thats easier for people to as it always was spelled wrong on flyers. The original Prank FanatiX name was inspired by the term ‘faith fanatics’ in Green Day’s song ‘East Jesus Nowhere’.

How would you describe your sound? Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Musically we are heavily influenced by all those big Pop Punk bands like blink, All Time Low and also newer acts like Neck Deep or The Story So Far. Lyrically the inspiration comes from situation of our everyday life. Things you go through in every stage of your life or even things and problems we notice in other peoples’ life around us can make perfect inspiration for song lyrics.

Our music can be described as pop punk. We try to spread good emotions with our music, playing a mixture of catchy sing-along choruses and cool punk riffs. What makes us unique is the sound of our vocalists’ voice. Something about it sounds different than what you can typically hear from a pop punk band.

We have a couple of songs about love, but I guess every band has… Besides that there’s no special theme we write about the most. Most of the lyrical content is personal problems and situations we go through in our own lives.

How would you describe your live show? How many gigs have you played?

We always try to move and be the most energetic that we can be. We also tend to talk a lot in between songs. Maybe more than we should. Even though it’s always funny to entertain some people by talking flat out nonsense. We played around 40 shows since forming in 2014.

What’s the wildest or most unusual thing you’ve seen/done at a gig?

Maybe not that wild but definetely extraordinary and strange: One time at a festival we were asked to write our names on a naked chest. Unfortunately it was a drunk guy and he had a whole bunch of chest hair which made the g process not that easy.

What kit do you play?

We are using an Ibanez bass + Hartke amp and cab, a Gibson Les Paul Studio + Marshall JVM205h amp and Marshall 1960A cab, as well a custom-made drumkit by SB-drums with Zildjian cymbals, Basix hardware, a Tama Iron Cobra Pedal and Remo Ambassador X-coated drumheads.

What plans do you have for the rest of 2016?

Play as many live shows as possible! We just want to get out there and spread our music. There will also be a new music video for our song ‘Pogo Romance’ which is going to be released very soon. For the end of the year we plan on going into the studio a second time and record our second EP.

If you could play as part of any 3-band bill, what other two bands would you choose to share the stage with?

For me personally that would be blink-182 and Green Day. They are the first two bands I ever really listened to and who made me love this genre. I also learned to play guitar and taught myself how to write songs by learning and playing their songs. From day one they were my biggest inspiration, playing a show with them would be awesome!
