Here we go again… Last year we covered every band on the Hobgoblin New Blood and Jagermeister stages in the run-up to Bloodstock 2015. This year, we’re going one better and aim to have interviews from all the bands on those two stages as well as all of those on the SOPHIE stage prior to the event kicking off on August 11th. That’s almost 100 interviews to get online for you lucky people over the course of the next couple of weeks. I bloody love this job, but you lot owe me a beer at Catton Hall, right?

Acid Reign – SOPHIE Stage, Saturday
Wikipedia tell us of the reasons for a reboot rather than a reformation, but why reboot/reform at all? What was the urge to “get the band back together again”? Or was it just everyone complaining that everyone else was and you hadn’t?
It’s all Kev’s fault. He suggested back in 2013 that we do some gigs in 2015 as Obnoxious would be 25 years old. Everyone said “great idea” then one by one after numerous rehearsals they dropped out for varying reasons leaving me the only original member.
The new song’s gone down great guns. Is there a possibility of a full album?
Yes. Hopefully late 2017… hopefully. We’re all busy with other stuff too.
As for live dates, you’ve done the Xentrix thing, you’re about to do something in a field and there’s your shindig in Bridgend in December. Are you warming up to do a proper tour sometime?
Not until we have something to promote. We’re really looking forward to doing a tour so people can complain that we’re not playing their back garden and that thirty miles is “a long way” to travel.
What sort of set list can we expect at Bloodstock?
One packed with Acid Reign songs! We will be playing a special track that hasn’t seen the light of day since the Obnoxious tour 25 years ago, I am very excited about this.
Back in the day you (well, H…!) toured with Nuclear Assault and Exodus. Does it surprise you to see bands like that still going or resurging all these years later?
Well Nuclear Assault have retired but I get what you mean. Not really – things have a habit of coming back around in life in general, so why should thrash be any different?
How has the thrash scene changed in that time? Is it more mature or isit a nice hark back to the less worrying times of the 80’s and 90’s?
We are all a lot older, that’s one change. I can only speak for myself but I am enjoying it more the second time around. It’s a chance I never expected to have and to get to do all this again is an absolute treat. I mean Bloodstock is the biggest gig this band has ever played, how cool is that?!
What other bands who called it a day would you personally like to see make a comeback? Doesn’t have to be thrash / metal!

Out of all the gigs you’ve played (as part of Acid Reign or any other line-up), is there one which is particularly memorable – for good reasons or bad?
As Keith Platt, my comedy character, it would be 2012. 1300 metallers singing along to my karaoke version of “Walk” by Pantera was spine tingling.
In Acid Reign – no they are all unique occasions and every single one usually has something memorable happen. Now if you were to ask me after our show at Bloodstock I may answer differently……..
What advice would you give to a young band just starting out today?
Try and find a job where the boss understands that you may be away for weeks at a time and is cool with that. Not very rock and roll but essential in the current climate within the music industry.
