Here we go again… Last year we covered every band on the Hobgoblin New Blood and Jagermeister stages in the run-up to Bloodstock 2015. This year, we’re going one better and aim to have interviews from all the bands on those two stages as well as all of those on the SOPHIE stage prior to the event kicking off on August 11th. That’s almost 100 interviews to get online for you lucky people over the course of the next couple of weeks. I bloody love this job, but you lot owe me a beer at Catton Hall, right?

Exhumation – Hobgoblin New Blood Stage, Friday
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We’re from Liverpool. Most of our from the Wirral.
How did you meet?
Cam, Chris and Ryan left a band and started their own, Kieran and Liam ed soon after on guitar and drums respectively. Liam then left the band due to health issues and we asked Karl from Kryocell (who played Bloodstock last year!) to take the sticksman position in the band. To which he replied “don’t cancel that gig on Saturday” and he learned our set in 5 days. Kieran and the band parted ways shortly after BOA 15 and Karl asked Ste (also of Kryocell) if he wanted to fill in for a string of gigs we had coming up. It fit that much that we asked him to stay.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
Original line-up since December 2014. Current line-up, exactly a year at Bloodstock 16!
Where does the name of the band come from?
Nowhere really, Cam just thought the name would seem decent enough for a death metal band and it just stuck.
What are your influences – individually or as a band?
Anything with blastbeats, fast double kicks, harsh vocals, slams and brutality. Pretty much anything along the lines of Cannibal Corpse, Aborted, Dying Fetus, Blood Red Throne, Decapitated, Cattle Decapitation and Devourment. Oh and N.W.A.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We like to mix everything together, we have elements of brutal death, thrash, black and groove.
What’s your live show like – why should the baying hordes troop over to the stage you’re playing on to watch you?
Like five guys bringing you a barrage of brutal death. If you like your death metal fast, heavy and non stop then we will not disappoint!
When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?
When we had won the Liverpool Metal 2 the Masses competition. The moment Simon Hall announced that we had won, the roof went into orbit… I think it’s still there.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
Double kicks, crunchy guitars, blastbeats, a fast start and an even faster ending.
Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?
Behemoth… and we are clashing with them!
What are you working on at the moment?
At the moment we have just finished recording our debut EP and are going to keep the ball rolling by working on new material for an album that we hope to try release around this time next year.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done on tour?
Tour?! Now there’s something we haven’t done yet but are planning to.
What advice would you give to a young band just starting out today?
To be honest we are still a young band, but all we can say is… Practice, Practice, Practice. As harsh as this sounds, no one likes a sloppy band. Keep working hard!
