Here we go again… Last year we covered every band on the Hobgoblin New Blood and Jagermeister stages in the run-up to Bloodstock 2015. This year, we’re going one better and aim to have interviews from all the bands on those two stages as well as all of those on the SOPHIE stage prior to the event kicking off on August 11th. That’s almost 100 interviews to get online for you lucky people over the course of the next couple of weeks. I bloody love this job, but you lot owe me a beer at Catton Hall, right?

Outright Resistance – Jagermeister Stage, Sunday
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Stevenage, deep within rural Hertfordshire.
How did you meet?
While speed dating at a local event through the help of plenty of fish, and understanding our love of metal, us five took each other’s details. We then began meeting up weekly for timed schedules, but this time with instruments to practice at The Practice Roomz in Stevenage.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
The band formed in 2011, doing as many gigs as we can. Attempting to get to 150 overall gigs before the year is out!
Where does the name of the band come from?
Resistance is a word that is very easy to have itself described, Outright is used as a blanket disapproval of intolerance and ignorance. The two combined is our vocal disapproval, not only as the unit of us but anyone who believes it as much as we do.
What are your influences – individually or as a band?
We have a lot of bands we all individually enjoy, but overall there are a few which crossover for us all including Lamb Of God, Chimaira and Slipknot.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
In a genre so typically full of rage and anger, we try our best to bring some positivity into the metal world with such songs as “We Are Here” a heart-warming statement to remind people struggling that they are not alone and we would do all that we can help, even if it’s just lending an ear for people to vent or “Gee, Dysphoria” a song of empowerment, telling people they shouldn’t let others get them about who they love or for who they are, embracing life how they want to and not letting society dictate otherwise.
What’s your live show like – why should the baying hordes troop over to the stage you’re playing on to watch you?
Eye opening entertainment. We definitely get that everyone has their own worries and stresses and we try to provide a little bit of escape for you should you come see us. We also see if we can use our time to get across a message that no one is alone if they need anyone of us to talk to. Be it at a show or online. Message + high energy show = a jolly good evening… at least we hope.
When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?
About a month or so ago when Paige was ed by Simon Hall before an email was sent to the band. We can categorically confirm that there was absolute calm at the confirmation and no losing of shit was had by anyone… in opposite world.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
Musical journey. We’ve got the faster songs, the headbangers, the crying out for disco dance moves-ers. Cheeky jigs for all.
Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?
Our drummer Nelly is freaking out about Rotting Christ.
What are you working on at the moment?
Getting our newest release out to the world, under the title of Me vs I, which if it isn’t out by the time you read this then hopefully it won’t be too long now. Give it a listen and let us know what you thought about it.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done on tour?
Snorecore. The speed that out guitarist Grandad can fall asleep. He’ll hit the head in the pillow having said words only 20 seconds ago, and he’s writing new music with his bodily sounds.
What advice would you give to a young band just starting out today?
Gig everywhere, not just down the road. The high energy shows didn’t come out of nowhere, but out of playing to people as we tried to work out who we were as a band. It’s surprising how quickly you can find yourself when you play in front of different people regularly.
If you could be part of any 3-band line-up who else would you have on the bill? One band above you and one below – a chance to plug a smaller, unsigned act!
We’d maybe have to open this night really, but On Hollow Ground and Vanity Draws Blood. Those two group of guys have been absolutely fun for us to play with every single time we’ve had the privilege to do so. Hopefully it’s not long before our paths cross with both of them again.
What stage / time are you playing at Bloodstock (if you have your slot yet!)
We’ll be on the Jäger stage! Not sure of time but definitely the Sunday. So basically hang out there all day – bring your tent!
