Here we go again… Last year we covered every band on the Hobgoblin New Blood and Jagermeister stages in the run-up to Bloodstock 2015. This year, we’re going one better and aim to have interviews from all the bands on those two stages as well as all of those on the SOPHIE stage prior to the event kicking off on August 11th. That’s almost 100 interviews to get online for you lucky people over the course of the next couple of weeks. I bloody love this job, but you lot owe me a beer at Catton Hall, right?

Sublime Eyes – SOPHIE Stage, Thursday
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We’re from different parts of Norway, but based in Stavanger.
How did you meet?
Hard to since it’s a long time ago. Some of us have been friends since way back, and some of us just met through the music community here in Stavanger. Let’s just say that our ion for music brought us together hehe.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
The band has existed since 2007, but there have some lineup changes over the years.
Where does the name of the band come from?
The name Sublime Eyes came from our former singer. I guess it’s an “all seeing eye” kind of thing. That our eyes are open and see all the shit that’s happening in the world.
What are your influences – individually or as a band?
We like lots of the same music like 90/00’s Gothenborg metal (At The Gates, Dark Tranquillity, Dimension Zero, old In Flames), thrash metal (Slayer, Kreator, Revocation, Testament), but we also like very different kind of bands as well. Some of us are really into stoner metal, black metal, hardcore, rock and 80’s stuff, but I think that’s just good for us as a band. Makes our music more interesting.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Groovy melodic thrash/death metal. I think we got a really cool mix of old and new school metal that makes us stand out a little.
What’s your live show like – why should the baying hordes troop over to the stage you’re playing on to watch you?
We really deliver the goods live!
Our shows are very intense,energetic and full of life. We really enjoy playing live, and I think that really shows when we are on stage playing and headbanging away. If you like shredding riffs, slappin’ bass, groovy drums and “in your face” vocals, you really need to get your ass to our concert. ;)
When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?
Our good friend Simon Hall booked us some time back, so we have known about this concert for a while now. Just waiting to be announced. We actually won Metal To The Masses here in Norway back in 2012 and played the New Blood Stage. Can’t wait to be back at Bloodstock!
What sort of setlist can we expect?
We released an album (Sermons & Blindfolds) like 7 months ago, so we will be playing lots of new stuff as well as some older tunes. A well balanced setlist I would say.
Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?
Here’s the thing. We are playing Thursday, so the Sophie Stage is the only stage that’s open that day. Lucky for us as we get to see all the bands that day, and hopefully get a large crowd at our concert as well.
What are you working on at the moment?
New songs for a future album are in the works, and booking more shows/tours.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done on tour?
It’s probably not the wildest thing ever, but it’s the thing I the most from a tour in /Switzerland a couple years ago when our singer gave away several bottles of beer to some teens in a ing car while doing like 120 on the Autobahn. We even got that on tape! Hilarious!
What advice would you give to a young band just starting out today?
Play what you want to play, make good songs, record your songs, play live, and most important… HAVE FUN!
If you could be part of any 3-band line-up who else would you have on the bill? One band above you and one below – a chance to plug a smaller, unsigned act!
I can’t speak for the rest of the guys in Sublime Eyes, but my favourite band is Machine Head. So I’ll go for Machine Head as the band above, and some friends of mine from my hometown called Teardrown (check’em out!) as the band below. Now that would have been a killer tour!
