Sitting down with the guys in Death Blooms was always going to be fun, with some promising contemporary metal coming out of them (see “I’m Dead” at the bottom), they’re also a bunch of really nice guys. Here’s what they had to say about Amplified, the bands agenda and a name-check Fear Factory’s controversial Remanufacture.
What are you guys thinking of Amplified so far?
It’s been good but you can tell it’s been stressful, nothing more than teething problems in that it’s their first year. I’m sure they’ll be more on top of the smaller stuff next year, or even tomorrow for that matter!
Are you sticking around to see any other bands over the weekend?
We’ve actually gotta go tonight but I think we all want to see Fallen State today. Other than that we’re not sure who’s playing so we’ll just watch some bands I think!
Did you guys all come up together?
Yeah, we did.
What were you listening to on your way up?
Haha! Gojira, Cane Hill, Fear Factory, System Of A Down’s Toxicity – which is just brilliant.
I bought my first Fear Factory album for the journey here today but I accidentally got Remanufacture instead of Demanufacture.
No! We were talking about this earlier funnily enough, that’s the remixed version right? It was a cool thing to do back in the day, everyone did it.
On a slightly different note, where do you guys want to see Death Blooms go in the next few years?
That’s quite a long time but the main thing is we just want to keep climbing and keep playing shows. We’ve been lucky enough to do some really cool slots recently like Skindred and stuff but we’d like to get out on tour and maybe even play Amplified on an even bigger stage next year! Ideally we want to get to Festival.
What have you got going on for the rest of the year?
That’s a good question, we’re going to announce a tour soon-ish so we’ll be on the road towards the end of the year, other than that we’ve just got a few random shows dotted around the place. We’ll be in the studio soon too because we’re constantly writing and constantly recording so it’ll be good to get that down.
What from your own discography would you point people to who don’t know you are for them to best understand the band?
I suppose we’re somewhere between Slipknot and Hatebreed and everything in between. I don’t know though because when we started we just wanted to throw in some heavy where we could but ultimately we grew up as nu-metal kids and all that stuff so we throw it all in despite being into grunge and stuff too. We love a good chorus and we love a good riff at the end of the day though!
What’s the key message you want to get across to people in both the live shows and the music?
To have a nice time I think!
And lastly, with Rolling Stone‘s “Top Metal Albums” list going around at the moment, what would the four of you compile to be your “Top Metal Albums” list?
Phwoor, let’s do a couple each shall we? You’ll have to cancel all the rest of your interviews! We all love some nu-metal like Deftones, Korn, Slipknot, System Of A Down blah blah blah. Our other shared music is punk, so I suppose just the greats of both those genres!
