As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 10th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!
Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.
Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!
Hung Daddy – Jägermeister Stage, Friday
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We are from Nottingham.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
Our first gig was back in October 2015 at The Running Horse in Nottingham but we were playing together for about a year before that.
Where does the name of the band come from?
We got that from an episode of South Park. Cartman was being chatted up by an online pedo called Hung Daddy. He tells Cartman he’s 8.5 inches to which he responds, “I HATE MIDGETS!”
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We’ve been described as party metal mixed with Jagermeister! We play a blend of no-nonsense rock n roll and thrash metal with hints of swing and funk. What makes us unique though are our lyrics. We stay clear of angry, shouting “I’m a metal badass riding a dragon” stuff (not that we don’t like it) and instead write about real life things that piss us off or amuse us. Like getting stuck behind old lady drivers or needing a piss whilst lying in bed.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
Our live shows are fun and a bit silly. We love to get people moving and dancing and singing along. Getting a room full of people shouting “I SHIT LIVER” is great. You can expect glowsticks, inflatables, party poppers. Even Jesus made an appearance at our last show!
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
We’ve been going to Bloodstock for nearly ten years so finally going as a performing band is literally a dream come true. It’s a fantastic festival with a great atmosphere and line-up. The best alternative festival in the country and is on par with the european heavyweights such as Wacken and Hellfest.
Did you enter M2TM thinking you could win it? Which region did you win?
We wanted to win. That was our drive. It’s the main purpose of the event! We were finalists last year and made it to the final this year too. The competition was outstanding. We became good friends with Raised by Owls who actually won and we go through as runners-up. Couldn’t have asked for a better result really.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
We’re going to play a solid set of party tunes. It’s going to be a lot of fun.
Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?
If we clash with Decapitated I’d be gutted, but it would be kind of cool at the same time.
What are you working on at the moment?
More songs, we want to do a music video and expand our merch. The “I Shit Liver” spatulas seemed to go down well. Maybe some squirrel feeders next.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done on tour?
We once got some Kit Kats for playing a gig. That was wild. Usual rock n’ roll stuff really. Loud music and lots of booze is a great combination.
Jager, Hobgoblin Ale, Kraken, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!
Hobgoblin!
