#ROADTOBOA2017 – Morass of Molasses

As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 10th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!

Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Morass of Molasses – Sophie Lancaster Stage, Friday

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We all live in or around Reading, UK.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

Our first show was September 2013.

Where does the name of the band come from?

The band name was inspired by an article on Wired.com called “Morass of Molasses Mucks Up Boston”. It was about the Boston Molasses Disaster, where a giant storage tank of molasses exploded, sending a wall of thick sticky syrup through the streets of a Boston neighbourhood. This was also the subject matter of the song “Rotten Teeth” off our So Flows Our Fate EP.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

The songs usually explore particular aspects of the human condition. On the new album themes such as lust, greed, pride, jealousy, gluttony and vengeance mix with mythological Gods, creatures and settings as the canvas.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

We tend to let loose on stage which adds a level of unpredictability to our performance. Chuck in a healthy dose of banter and no two shows are ever the same.

Have you played Bloodstock before? If so, when?

We played the Jager stage in 2015 to a packed tent.

How/when did you find out that you’d be playing the SOPHIE stage?

We found out via phone near the end of May.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

The set will be showcasing songs from our Debut album These Paths We Tread.

Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

We are looking forward to seeing Ohhms again as we have toured with them in the past, and they always put on an amazing performance.

What are you working on at the moment?

We have a handful of new songs in the early stages, with the idea of releasing either an EP or doing a split next year.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Crowd surfing during the end of the set is always fun!

Jager, Hobgoblin Ale, Kraken, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!

Definitely Hobgoblin! It is our ‘tour beer’ of choice!
