#ROADTOBOA2017 – Seek Solace in Ruin

As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 10th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!

Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Seek Solace In Ruin – Hobgoblin New Blood Stage, Friday

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

From the grim, dark, north. Workington, precisely.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

We’ve been a band for five years now in one form or another. The current line-up has been solid for four of those years.

Where does the name of the band come from?

The name actually just came to me one day, and I thought “Heh, that sounds cool”. It’s a bit of a mouthful, but it works!

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We’re quite an odd mix of sounds. Certain songs you could pick out a heavy Lamb of God influence, others, Fear Factory, Whitechapel, or maybe Iowa-era Slipknot. Honestly, I hate to pigeonhole us as sounding like another band, as we never set out to do that.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

A Seek Solace In Ruin show is an absolutely balls to the wall, high energy, pummelling experience. Why should people watch us? Ever seen a man try to headbutt the floor while still standing up in an attempt to bang harder than anyone else?

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

I have indeed been to Bloodstock. I was lucky enough to be given two es by a close friend last year, and to say it was a good introduction to the festival is an understatement. The layout, the quality of the sound on the stages, the vendors, the staff, everything is exceptional.

Did you enter M2TM thinking you could win it? Which region did you win?

Eeeeeeevery band enters M2TM thinking they could win it. If you don’t believe that, then you’ve got the wrong attitude. We’ve entered M2tM in Carlisle before, and lost out to our good friends in Triverse Massacre in the 2016 finals, and we figured, this is our time to shine.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

It’s going to be a pretty diverse set, all things considered. We’re putting the finishing touches on some new material which should be ready in time for Bloodstock, but expect everything from groove-riddled riffs, intense kick drum and blast beat work, and gut-wrenching vocals

Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?

The dream would be to not clash with Whitechapel, or Decapitated. Clashing with either of those would be a personal nightmare!

What are you working on at the moment?

We’re currently up to our eyeballs writing and tracking our as-yet-untitled debut album. You’ll get to hear most of that during our set.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done on tour?

We once played an absolutely ace little venue in Leeds called Bad Apples. Dancing on tables at 3am after the showing belting out Manowar and Alice Cooper was not on the cards. Failing that, on the same tour, we played The Venue in Selby on an all-dayer, with Beholder headlining. The exact words “Here lads, make yourselves fucking comfy, bring that leather sofa up here will ya” were uttered, and never have I been comfier in the middle of a pit.

Jager, Hobgoblin Ale, Kraken, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!

It’s not even a question really is it? All aboard the Jagertrain!
