As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 10th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!
Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.
Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!
SwitchBlade City – Hobgoblin New Blood Stage, Saturday
Simple things first – Where are you guys from?
We are from Kettering, Northamptonshire.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
We’ve been a band for two years, we formed in the July of 2015.
Where does the name of the band come from?
We were brainstorming ideas and it was actually a brain child of two that we chopped up and put together words to make what is “SwitchBlade City”.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Our music is very groove based rock, with a hard edge. We’ve got more influences than you can shake a stick at so it’s hard to pin us down to just “hard rock”. We always manage to turn some heads, which is great for us!
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
To sum it up in one word? Sweaty! We put everything into our performances, we’re not the band that runs around and does backflips everywhere, but we give 100% ion through every single song topped off by a true frontman performance courtesy of our vocalist. We can guarantee that even if you don’t know the words you’ll find yourself with the melodies stuck in your head!
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
Our guitarist Rory went in 2013 and he says he enjoyed it massively. It’s a huge family community and not forgetting an absolutely stellar line up of bands!
Did you enter M2TM thinking you could win it? Which region did you win?
We entered in 2016, having only been a band just shy of a year we were fortunate enough to advance to the finals. Although unable to seal a spot at Bloodstock we felt that this was good for us as we hid away for a year, honed our sound and our live show, played a tonne of gigs and came back a year later far better than before and here we are, after winning the Northants Region readying ourselves for the New Blood Stage!
What sort of setlist can we expect?
That would be telling! Make sure you catch us on Sunday to find out the answer to that one!
Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?
There are so many awesome bands throughout the weekend and we never thought we’d be playing in the same day as them! As a band I think we can safely say we’d like to see Skindred, so here’s to hoping we don’t clash with those guys!
What are you working on at the moment?
We are currently in the process of writing our second EP which we will be recording later this year! We are also in the process of bringing out our debut music video for one of our songs off our current EP Favourite Act of Sin.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done on tour?
We played Carlisle earlier this year and the car journey back was absolute carnage! Our poor drummer had to witness the whole thing: four lads, two litres of rum, one bottle to pee in for the whole journey. You can imagine what scenes unfolded!
Jager, Hobgoblin Ale, Kraken, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!
We are absolute Jäger fiends. It’s actually mad – our local does five for a tenner, so it’s a no-brainer!
