#ROADTOBOA2017 – Thuum

As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 10th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!

Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Thuum – Hobgoblin New Blood Stage, Friday

How long have you been playing together as a band?

With the current line-up, about 1 1/2 years, but overall myself and the drummer Joe formed it back in 2014.

Where does the name of the band come from?

We are gamer nerds, and love Skyrim, so when searching for a name, Thuum (pronounced Thu’um in the games) really stood out, and so we went with it. Fingers crossed we don’t get sued one day! We love you, Bethesda!

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We are somewhat of a hybrid to be honest. We definitely mainly fall into the category of sludge/stoner metal but we have elements of prog, trad and thrash as well, so I definitely feel with that combination, we have our own sound.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

I’d say a mix of high energy with banterous humour. When it comes to writing the material we take it seriously, but live is all about letting the hair down and vibing with the crowd! Or getting them motivated if they are being a bit subdued. Which normally means they aren’t drunk yet.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

We love Bloodstock! Personally, this year will be my tenth year attending Bloodstock. It’s by far the best UK metal festival both for lineup and community!

So how does it feel to be invited to play the one and only Bloodstock?

Having been able to watch so many of my friends bands play the festival over the years, it’s an amazing feeling to finally get to do it myself. We are all mega excited to play the New Blood Stage as well. So many bands have come through that stage.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

Music-wise, we try and shape our set to start and end with a bang. Make a good first impression, and let the crowd leave with a smile, I say.

Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?

Obviously Amon Amarth, ‘cos we don’t want to miss their epic stage show. Soilwork will be a crowd favourite too, so it would be a shame to go up against them!

What are you working on at the moment?

We are currently putting the finishing touches to the release of our forthcoming EP Through Smoke, Comes Fire and aside from that, writing new material for our debut album. It’s all go at Thuum HQ atm.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done on tour?

Backyard wrestling  on top of a car has to be up there. But otherwise, we’ve yet to write our own tour diaries. Come back to us in a year or so and ask us the same question.

Jager, Hobgoblin Ale, Kraken, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!

Bourbon, all the way! Kingstone Press is a great cider too tho!
