#ROADTOBOA2017 – Vorbid

As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 10th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!

Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Vorbid – Hobgoblin New Blood Stage, Sunday

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are from a little town called Arendal. It’s in south Norway.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

The band has been together since October of 2013, but this line-up wasn’t around until March of 2016.

Where does the name of the band come from?

Vorbid comes from our previous name, Morbid Visions. Since that name is also Sepultura’s debut album, we wanted something original. Therefore, we took the V from Visions and put it instead of the M on Morbid, and voila, Vorbid was born.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

What I think makes Vorbid unique is that we have the fast thrash elements from Megadeth and Annihilator, but we mix it with the odd time signatures and rhythms from Rush and King Crimson.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

Well, since we are a fairly young band we have a lot of energy. We encourage the crowd to us, instead of just standing there. Vorbid has also a variety of complex songs, so you can take a pause from the headbanging and just absorb what’s happening on our instruments.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

None of us has ever been to B.O.A, so we are very excited! We’ve heard good things, and the line-up is killer as well!

Did you enter M2TM thinking you could win it? Which region did you win?

We entered the competition with intentions to win, but you never know what the judges musically prefer. Our mentality was “Hey, let’s put on a great show and do our best”. We won in a town called Sandnes at a club called Tribute. It’s on the West coast of Norway.

Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?

Megadeth or Havok.

What are you working on at the moment?

We are currently in the studio working on our debut album. It’s going to be our best work yet, so we are really excited to hear what people think of brand new Vorbid material. Some of the songs haven’t been played live yet.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done on tour?

We played a local show in Arendal at a new venue called Bankgården. We were backstage getting ready for the show, and suddenly some drunken asshole started to play drums on stage. We were about to kick him out, but our sound guy took care of it. We found out later he was kicked out of the venue for trying to start a fight. Hilarious!

Jager, Hobgoblin Ale, Kraken, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!

Hobgoblin Ale.
