Bloodstock 2017 Interview: Dagon and Xjort of Heathen Deity

Just after their performance on the New Blood stage on the Sunday at Bloodstock, we had a quick chat with Heathen Deity about their performance and also their plans for the next few months. Read on for the full transcription…

You guys played on the New Blood Stage today. How was it for you?

Dagon: For us on stage it was a little bit of an abortion. The sound wasn’t great and we did the best with what we had. We’re not sure if it was the sound guys or something but it wasn’t fun. We’re waiting to reserve judgement until we see some video footage.

You were invited to play the stage. How did that feel?

Dagon: It was a good feeling as we’ve been coming here for quite a few years and to play here was great.

This is the first time the festival has sold out this year. What do you think has led it to sell out?

Xjort: Booking Heathen Deity.

Dagon: Good call. I’m not too sure to be honest. You probably know more about that than we do!

Xjort: It’s quite a varied lineup this year, I think. They seem to have covered all the bases so there’s a bit of everything for everyone.

Dagon: We’re assuming word of mouth as well and all that. I don’t think they’ll get too big like Hellfest has become. Bloodstock is more of a friendly festival so why ruin that reputation?

Have you guys been here all weekend?

Xjort: We have, yes. I feel absolutely awful for it but I’ve had fun.

Dagon: I was here on Friday for Inquisition and then here today. I wanted to see Infernal Sea but unfortunately couldn’t make it. We’ll get to see their set at some point soon though so should be good.

Xjort: Ashen Crown were good.

If you had to change anything about Bloodstock what would it be?

Dagon: It needs to be a bit more grim and brutal. It’s way too sunny and there needs to be more rain.

Describe the band in 3 words.

Dagon: I’ll do it in 4 words. True English black metal.
