As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 10th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!
Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.
Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!
The Infernal Sea – Sophie Lancaster Stage, Thursday
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We are from the English Fenlands of East Anglia.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
2017 is our seventh year of existence.
Where does the name of the band come from?
The name is irrelevant, however the Sea can be an aggressive all consuming beast much like our music so I guess that’s fitting.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We combine the extremity of traditional sounding black metal with rock/punk elements. We are a rock band first and foremost. The live ritual is a rock show. The majority of our lyrics and visual themes are based on events that occurred during the middle ages. Our most recent release delves deep into the events around the Plague beginning in 1348 across Europe.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
The live ritual is an intense, mystic journey imbued with suffering. We will be revealing some new additions to our attire at BOA 2017. The Agents Of Satan shall also us on stage.
Have you played Bloodstock before? If so, when?
We headlined the New Blood Stage in 2013. It is a great honour to be invited back to perform our ritual on the Sophie stage for BOA 2017.
How/when did you find out that you’d be playing the SOPHIE stage?
We were ed a few months back and sworn to secrecy until the official announcement was made.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
The set will feature songs from The Great Mortality, some old favourites plus a track to be included on a future release soon to be announced. This set features our strongest songs that go over the best at live shows guaranteed to cause mayhem.
Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?
Because we play the Thursday we are lucky in that we won’t clash with anyone. However if we were to clash then we would hate to be up against any other black metal band on the bill.
What are you working on at the moment?
We have a release in the works, new tracks have been recorded and all will be announced soon. There is also a tour to be announced for November.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
We have seen some pretty wild things, but those tales are best left untold.
Jäger, Hobgoblin Ale, Kraken, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!
Jäger, always.
