Prior to their performance on the main stage at Bloodstock, we had a quick chat with the vocalist of Decapitated about their performance and his recent collaboration with Krimh. Read on for the full transcription…
You’re playing the main stage in… [looks at watch] not a lot of time actually. Are you looking forward to it?
Of course man. Last time we were here was 2014 which was really good. To be playing a longer set and also having some new material as well is awesome. It’s one of the best festivals we’ve played and It’s not just me that thinks that. I first heard about Bloodstock from Devin Townsend and he said to me “Dude. you have to play this festival.” And he was right!
Anticult was released about a month ago. How do you feel the reaction has been to it?
Honestly it’s been amazing. The has been awesome from both the fans and the media which is always good. We did it a little a bit differently this time and it’s kinda an amalgamation of all the stuff we’ve done in the past. I personally think it really works and it seems as though the fans have as well.
What bands are you looking forward to potentially catching today?
We’re playing just before Testament and I’m really looking forward to seeing them. They were one of my favourite bands in my childhood so it’s kinda a childhood dream to see them.
On a recent collaboration you did with Krimh, you did some clean vocals. Is this something you might include in future Decapitated albums or will you feature it in some other way?
Not with Decapitated. We do some kinda ‘screamy vocals with notes’ but I don’t think we will be. I mean, we can’t close our minds but it’s death metal and I don’t think singing ballads over it would work!
I’m going to be doing some other stuff soon anyway which is out of the sphere of rock and metal which’ll be good. It’s kinda electronic-y and I’m doing it for spreading my abilities and to learn something new. But no, I wanted to do something different for Krimh and it was kinda in the style of Katatonia. It was a challenge for me but it was good fun. When Krimh was in the band we used to live together and we’re still good friends so it was good to do something together again.
