Are you ready for some crushing riffs, and utterly destructive breakdowns? If you’re not, then get yourself ready, because metalcore sextet Black Ink are here with their brand new single: “Lights Out”. The newest release is a hard and fast heavy metal attack, reaching out of the speakers to pin you down and make sure you hear everything it has to say. We here at The Moshville Times were lucky to have a chat and catch up with Black Ink, letting us know a little bit more about one of the UK’s hottest young bands.
First things first; where are you guys from?
Nottingham, UK.
Where did you meet?
We met years back though myband.co.uk, then other were just on the scene.
How long have you been playing as a band?
As Black Ink, since September!
Where did the name come from?
It was the working title of our first single “Scars”, and it just felt right.
What are your influences?
Killswitch, Bullet; that whole early metalcore vibe mixed in with some more modern bands, like The Ghost Inside.
Now to get more in-depth:
Describe your musical style; why do you play the way that you do?
So far, we have released two tracks that differ from each other very much. We just write what comes at the time, hence why we have such a wide variety of sounds.
Do you have any lyrical themes?
The initial theme is a story that is told by Sam, our singer. This starts from the lowest point in his life and you will see the progression.
You recently released your single “Lights Out”. Did it feel like an important or special piece of music to the band?
This is the start. It’s something we sat on for a while and marked the start of a new era, so it means a lot to us!
Was the single meticulously planned, or were you more free-form in your writing process?
Kam had the theme for the song planed for a while, and it evolved from there! Sam had been sitting on the chorus for a long time.
Is there an album? If so, give us some details.
Right now we are taking things as they come, so we don’t really know!
What are your live shows like? How many have you played? (any chance of visiting Scotland?)
We’ve only played a couple of shows so far, but they have been mega! We put our everything into our performance and just hope it shows. We will do our best in the next few months!
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen at a live show?
Dillinger Escape Plan were by far the wildest experience.
What are your plans for the rest of 2017, and into 2018?
2017 is basically over, but next year: shows, shows, and more shows!
“Lights Out” is out now and is can be heard via iTunes or Spotify.
