#RoadToWildfire2018 – Neshiima

Much like we endeavour every year before Bloodstock, this year, for Scotland’s Wildfire Festival which kicks off on 22nd June, we’re interviewing every band set to play the stages of Wiston. You get to hear (or read) right from the horse’s mouth who you should be watching over the course of the weekend.

Previous years have seen some excellent acts grace the stages as our reviews can attest to and trust us when we say this year is no different! So get reading and listening so you can plan your coffee/beer/food breaks accordingly…

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Neshiima

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Glasgow. Kind of. Liam lives in Crieff and does a fair whack of travelling to rehearsals and to hang out etc. Whereas Danny, Craig and Ross are all from areas surrounding Glasgow.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

Just over 5 years now – we first got together as Neshiima in April 2013.

Where does the name of the band come from?

When searching for a band name, we wanted a word that wasn’t English and was a bit different. Neshima, with one I is Hebrew and translates to “breath” or “breath of life”.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Listeners can’t seem to put a stamp on what genre we are. I guess that makes us unique. We mix rap with melodies and heavier riffs with electronics. Our sound has recently been likened to bands like Linkin Park, Enter Shikari and Bring Me The Horizon.

What’s your live show like? Why should people watch you?

Energetic – expect non-stop movement and plenty of crowd interaction. If you’re coming to Wildfire, get clued up on some of our songs and help sing along! Our full back catalogue is available on Spotify and Apple Music etc.

Have you played Wildfire before? If so, when?

No, this our first time and we are very excited to be involved!

What sort of setlist can we expect?

Expect songs from our recently released EP Purple as well as a few oldies and some brand new songs from our next releases – which are due later this year.

Which band are you most looking forward to seeing?

Mason Hill.

What have you got planned for the second half of 2018?

Purple was the first of three EPs that we are releasing this year. The second of the series is expected to be released late summer and followed up by a full UK tour and the third EP towards the end of the year.

What’s been the highlight for the band’s career so far?

Probably seeing our mugs on national TV this year! Our single “Here Forever” (featuring our talented buddy Renny Carroll of Forever Never fame) was repeatedly played on Kerrang and Scuzz. That was definitely a proud moment for all of us who grew up watching our favourite bands on these channels.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

We once started a conga during a show… that and Craig usually finds something or someone to climb on while playing bass. He’s hard to keep still.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be ing and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

Opening for us – Titan Breed from Glasgow. We’ve played many shows with these maniacs and any time that they are on before us they do nothing short of warm the crowd up nicely. ing – Bring Me The Horizon. They’re not everyone’s favourite but we’d be guaranteed a huge crowd and I think we would definitely appeal to a portion of their fanbase!

What day/time are you playing at Wildfire? (If you have your slot yet!)

I believe we are playing on Saturday as a co-headliner of the second stage.

Pistonhead Lager, Cloven Hoof rum or Thistly Cross cider? And yes, we’ll be counting the votes!

Rum, always rum!
