#RoadToBOA2018 – Fire Red Empress

As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 9th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!

Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Fire Red Empress – Sophie Lancaster Stage, Thursday

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We’re quite spread out although we class our home town as Birmingham as it’s central to all of us.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

We formed in 2014…so 4 years of fun!

Where does the name of the band come from?

When we formed the band and were coming up with names Paul mentioned a fish called a Red Empress. Sounded cool but was a pretty shitty little thing to be honest. We added ‘Fire’ for effect!

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

I would say we have quite a unique sound. We have all sorts of influences from Kyuss to Radiohead but we sound like none of them. I guess the core of what we’re about is big riffs and great vocals.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

We tend to try and keep in between chat to a minimum…people don’t want to hear us rattle on about shit. We like to let our music do the talking and give everything we have for the time we’re on stage.

Have you played Bloodstock before? If so, when?

We played in 2015 on the Sophie Stage and it was the highlight of the band so far!

How/when did you find out that you’d be playing the SOPHIE stage?

We found out in March from the Bloodstock guys.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

We haven’t got a long set so we want to get in and blast it out with a short heavy set to blow away the cobwebs.

Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

Pallbearer – great band.

What are you working on at the moment?

Album no.2 is being written right now!

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Well, Jen reckons she’s got some wild things planned so come and watch us and you’ll see!

Jäger, Hobgoblin Ale, Red Bull, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!

Jäger!
