As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 9th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!
Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.
Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!
The Brood – Hobgoblin New Blood Stage, Saturday
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We are from London.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
We’ve been together for 4 years now.
Where does the name of the band come from?
It comes from the Cronenberg film from 1979.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Punishing grindcore with influences ranging from black and death metal to hardcore. I’m not sure what makes use unique musically – that is always a hard question to answer when you’re in the band – if anything sets us apart from many artists though I would say it’s our beliefs and message. We see a lot of problems with society and the separation between the overpowered and the majority of the population. We really believe in what we do, it’s not just music for the sake of it.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
Our live show has high levels of brutal energy and ion. It’s a vessel for frustration, anger and hate. To be honest people will watch what band they want. We aren’t better than anyone else. If people don’t like us they are welcome to walk out the door they came in through. We will play exactly the same either way.
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
Yes, some of us have been going for years. We love Bloodstock and see it as the best UK festival if you’re a fan of metal and extreme music. There is an overall feeling of enjoyment and fun. People aren’t trying to prove anything; they go for the music and that’s how it works best.
Did you enter M2TM thinking you could win it? Which region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
We never really put thought into the winning aspect. Obviously we thought it would be great if we won, but for us the M2TM shows were about playing to a diverse set of people and other bands. Above all else they were about taking an interest in our local scene, with genres we wouldn’t normally play with. We were the runners-up for M2TM London.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
A brutal and heartfelt one. We really believe in our songs and what we do. If there’s any energy left in us after the set, or any sweat left in our skin, then you’re not watching The Brood.
Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?
Our brothers in Negative Thought Process! Separate to UK grind though, Power Trip and Gojira.
What are you working on at the moment?
We have a new EP that’s nearly finished, and we are writing for another EP or full length. We also we have a new video coming soon.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Just being ourselves is pretty wild… not to mention Senen’s butt plug or Nando’s J-Lo t shirt.
Jager, Hobgoblin Ale, Red Bull, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!
We will be the dicks that say none of the above. Water and a good night’s sleep!
