It’s that time of year again, when in the run-up to Bloodstock we endeavour to interview every band gracing the SOPHIE, New Blood and Jägermeister stages from 8th – 11th August 2019. This means you’ve got a chance to read up on all your favourite bands set to play over the weekend and decide which new ones you’ll want to check out.
As ever, we’re predicting some horrible clashes because, true to form, there are some great bands across all three stages so you should start
planning who you want to see.
Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!
Black Shuck – Jägermeister Stage, Saturday
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We are from Galway city in the west of Ireland,
How long have you been playing together as a band?
Black Shuck has been going for about 3 years
Where does the name of the band come from?
The name if from old English folklore, a black dog that is seen as a bad omen.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
It’s kinda hard to pin down, we try not to pigeon hole ourselves and just see what comes out, but we try to have a good mix of fast / slow and heavy / melodic, as much variety as possible, but always a groovy hook
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
On stage we can be unpredictable. Going crazy on stage, jumping out into the crowd, joking with each other. We try not to take ourselves too seriously and have as much fun as possible, it is what we’re here for after all!
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
Our bassist Thomas has been to Bloodstock before, he loved it! He said it was great to see so many great bands all together and being able to bump into people you’re only used to seeing on stage or in magazines is surreal
When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?
We got to the final of the Irish Bloodstock: Metal to the Masses, even though we knew we put on a good show, after seeing AeSect we knew that they had it in the bag, but Simon Hall announced that he would be choosing a second band for the Jägermeister stage… Then when he said our name and the crowd started cheering, it was an indescribable feeling
What sort of setlist can we expect?
Varied and chaotic, as soon as you get used to something, we pull the rug out from under you
Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?
Anthrax, Dee Snider and Scorpions!
What are you working on at the moment?
We are currently doing pre-production on our new EP, hope to have it ready soon
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Unfortunately, we are rather big lads, so stage-diving / crowd surfing is not really an option… But we do like to jump off the stage and run around the venue.
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
We’re not the pickiest, usually a few nice cold pints! Maybe a few JD and cokes! If we’re feeling frisky we might even throw back a few Jägers… What luck!
