#RoadToBOA2019 – Deformation of Man

It’s that time of year again, when in the run-up to Bloodstock we endeavour to interview every band gracing the Sophie Lancaster, New Blood and Jägermeister stages from 8th – 11th August 2019. This means you’ve got a chance to read up on all your favourite bands set to play over the weekend and decide which new ones you’ll want to check out.

As ever, we’re predicting some horrible clashes because, true to form, there are some great bands across all three stages so you should start planning who you want to see.

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Deformation of Man – New Blood Stage, Saturday

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Hi! We are from Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

We started in November 2010.

Where does the name of the band come from?

We are not fans of patriarchy – the hope that the chauvinistic male will be eradicated. We believe and hope that we stand as equals next to each other in making sure people feel united, not divided.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We have been described as a heavy groove based metal – we love Lamb of God, Devildriver – I’m a huge Black Sabbath fan so we try and be as heavy as we can as a four piece.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

It is energetic and intense. We love playing live and if the people are there and they want to release any anger, frustration or vent then we’ll be there.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

Carl is the only one that’s been to BOA and he always comes back psyched!

Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?

We won the Sheffield M2tM.

Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?

Absolutely shocked but super excited (5 words yus!)

What sort of setlist can we expect?

Non-stop. From when the first note hits it will be a storm of 4-piece heavy noise – that’s what it is about right? Strip away everything – heavy honest music.

Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?

I’m looking forward to seeing the winners from Poland, Norway and Ireland. They will all be traveling quite a distance so it would be great if they can get maximum .

What are you working on at the moment?

We are currently getting ready for BOA, that has been our main focus. Also promoting our new album Rebirth of Chaos which will be out in August. Luke (our drummer) and I have also started putting together some new tracks – we never stop writing.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

I have crowd-surfed when we opened for Arnocorps. That is a hard question – I normally have no idea what’s happening around me when we start playing.

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

We normally have a shot of whiskey but we tend to not drink before we play.  Afterwards we’ll happily drink a place dry though!
