#RoadToBOA2019 – Eyes of the Raven

It’s that time of year again, when in the run-up to Bloodstock we endeavour to interview every band gracing the Sophie Lancaster, New Blood and Jägermeister stages from 8th – 11th August 2019. This means you’ve got a chance to read up on all your favourite bands set to play over the weekend and decide which new ones you’ll want to check out.

As ever, we’re predicting some horrible clashes because, true to form, there are some great bands across all three stages so you should start planning who you want to see.

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Eyes of the Raven – Jagermeister Stage, Friday

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are all Black Country born, predominantly from Dudley.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

Eyes of the Raven is 10 this year, a whole decade of beer metal. Though our have changed over recent years, we have known each other for a long time.

Where does the name of the band come from?

It was the title of an early song that we adopted as the name. It came from Dave’s encounter with a bunch of magpies trying to get one over on a very large raven and the raven was having none of it.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Beer Metal! We write tunes to drink to and our influences are drawn from a vast pool of genres and musicians.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

Five well-dressed dudes who love beer and play metal. We have an energetic show and like to get the crowd involved.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

Bloodstock has always been the festival for the fans, and from its early days when it was indoors to now. It’s just a brilliant weekend.

When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?

We were chosen to play after playing the final of Metal 2 the Masses Wolves.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

This is a well-timed question as we have published the playlist on Spotify, so anyone can go listen to it…however there will be a new unrecorded track played.

Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

All of them! But it’s going to happen!

What are you working on at the moment?

Our next EP. It’s not titled yet, but I can tell you this record will be deep, both musically and emotionally. This past year has been plagued with tragic events, some of which left us with spaces where friends once stood, or news that leaves you feeling very mortal. This EP will reflect on this and its array of emotions.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Donington ’96, KISS: that helicopter and those giant inflatables!

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

Personally, it can be anything, but at the moment I’m into Roadcrew Beer.
