#RoadtoBOA2019 – Jackal’s Backbone

It’s that time of year again, when in the run-up to Bloodstock we endeavour to interview every band gracing the SOPHIE, New Blood and Jägermeister stages from 8th – 11th August 2019. This means you’ve got a chance to read up on all your favourite bands set to play over the weekend and decide which new ones you’ll want to check out.

As ever, we’re predicting some horrible clashes because, true to form, there are some great bands across all three stages so you should start planning who you want to see.

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Jackal’s Backbone – Jagermeister Stage, Sunday

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

North Herts.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

This current line-up has been together for 2 years. The band has been going for 5 years.  Jake and Becca are both original , and Sam and Greg ed 2 years ago.

Where does the name of the band come from?

I believe it was from a book that the original guitarist read, plus it was a name that no one else was likely to have and I think it sums up our music quite well!

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We’re a groove-based metal band and our sound covers most sub-genres of metal plus has a punk rock kind of energy to it. I think this makes us quite unique and all our songs are very different to each other. We have a female vocalist that growls which a lot of people don’t expect!

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

Our live shows have a lot of energy and our aim is to have fun and enjoy ourselves, and I think if the crowd can see we’re enjoying ourselves they will feed off the vibe and also get in to it. Of course we’re never going to please everyone! We’ve converted quite a few people that didn’t think they would like us!

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

Most of us have been regulars at Bloodstock for a number of years now. It’s always an amazing atmosphere and I like how everything isn’t too far away e.g the campsites and the arena are very near to each other as are all the stages. It’s one big metal party for 4 days and everyone’s always really friendly. I love how it keeps growing but has still stuck to its roots!

When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?

We got an e-mail from Simon Hall inviting us to play which was an honour and we can’t thank him enough! We did the M2TM in Hitchin where we’re from, and got to the final. Although we didn’t win, we received an e-mail from Simon 3 weeks later.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

Come watch us and find out! It will be fast and heavy with some melodic and slow parts, and we’ll throw one big party!

Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

Love Boss Keloid who are playing the Sophie Stage. Also Hypocrisy and Dee Snider and playing the main stage – never seen them before so wouldn’t mind catching them.

What are you working on at the moment?

We’ve got a new single coming out the week before we play Bloodstock called ‘Dead Prey’ and we’re going to be shooting a video for it shortly. Really looking forward to that being released. The rest of the year we plan to work on more material and towards the end of the year, hopefully round about October, start recording our debut album – which will be titled ‘Red Mist Descending’. Plus we have a few shows to keep us going until the end of the year. Lots of exciting stuff coming up in the Jackal’s camp.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Not sure this interview is the best place to discuss that! Probably something involving fire or nudity, I guess that goes without saying! We would like to keep coming back and playing this festival so I best not say too much! Hopefully it will be wild when we play and everyone would have gotten over their hangovers and started drinking again!

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

Usually whatever cider, ale or lager is available at the venues we’re playing. As we’re playing the Jager stage I’m sure we’ll be partaking in a Jager or 2 at some point during the weekend!
